Default Bootup issues

hey.. im running windows XP Home.
My pc is a little sluggish as i run a lot of web programming devices and programs etc. Because of this, there is data on my PC that is HIGHLY important. ive recently had some problems with cd drive which has been changed for the third time since i had the computer, ( issue being that it refuses to open, or read the contents when it finally does open) My PC was inadvertantly shut down a few days ago and ever since im recieving a blue screen error on bootup..
i cant actually remember the error code. sorry.

My point is, i know what has caused the issue and how to resolve it. (simply by using the windows XP disk and running a diskcheck and delete). The problem is tht i cant get the CD drive to read the disk and i cant ruse a new cd drive without installing it, and as i cant get onto the computer, i cant install it..

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can get my PC to run the disk. Any suggestions will be taken with gratitude......

Many thanks in advance,
Jamie

Have you tried the options in the Recovery Console to rescue your disk then? (Not just a scandisk.)

I would suggest fixmbr or fixboot

Ah "read a disk" meant read a CD, sorry!

You shouldn't have a problem putting a new drive in. It would be difficult to boot from CDs otherwise. The BIOS knows nothing about Windoze and its drivers, and that is what is booting the CDs.
