Can I use an old XP version of Microsoft word on my Vista PC as Im skint at the minute to upgrade to the Vista version?

That's a licensing question? Yes so long as the product key hasn't previously been installed on an earlier computer. As I understand it you're not meant to retain that license once you scrap the original computer, it was for one box and one box only.

So, if you have a fresh XP Word or Office license then yes you're fine doing it.

Office 97 installs properly on Vista so I'm quite sure Office XP will as well.
