Default Can Not Delete Old User Folders

Hi I am new here I have been using the same computer now for the past 5 years. Its a shop biult one with a AMD sepron 2300+ processor and 80gig HD. the memory is about 500MEGS.

The problem I have with it is I had reinstalled XP pro a couple of times and noticed the old folders from my previous use is still on the hard drive. These have black writing and taking up quite a lot of space.

There are only 2 users on her myself and my girlfriends and we both have admin rights with in our part of the computer.

I have been trying to delete the old user folders but it goes so far then says can not delete access is denied.

is there a way of deleting them for space sake please.

Thank you in advance

You will want to make a backup before deleting these in case something goes wrong.
This is not suggested to use on any file unless you are 100% sure what it is.

Boot into Safe Mode

Log in to your usual account.

To take full control of a file:
  • Right click the file, select Properties.
  • Click the Security tab, then click on your user name.
  • Click Edit, then click on your user name on the pop up screen
  • Check the box marked Full Control under the allow heading
  • OK out of all dialog boxes.
  • You should now be able to delete the file(s)
Note: If this doesn't work try from the Administrator account.

I know evil sorted it for you, I saw earlier. But the downage lost your post and my "future reference post" So here goes it:

In the future reformat your drives when you do a reinstall (it's an option in the process) this way the HDD will be wiped clean of everything, and the OS can go clean on.
