Hey everyone. I had to format my harddrive due to gettting a virus and when I went to reinstall MS Office it said I had the wrong product key. It is the same product key I used when I first got the laptop. The only thing I can think of is that this will be the 3rd time I had to enter this product key on my laptop due to having to format my harddrive in the past. As well I installed it on my desktop a few years ago.
Does anyone know where I can get another product key? Do I contact Microsoft and if so will I have to pay? |

You'll have to pay if you get a new one yes.
Ideally you should deactivate and uninstall programs like Office before reformatting, that way you can still use the license. It sounds to me like MS has got confused, and thinks you have 3 computers running it all activated already, so it won't let you again. You could try just waiting a week or so, just to see if it figures out it's only the 2nd PC, and then letting you install it.
