Default Computer Freezing

I've reached the end of my rope. You see, about two days ago, my computer started randomly freezing up. I press the numlock key, and the light doesn't respond, and I'm forced to restart my computer. I've dusted it out completely, inside and out, I've freed up as much memory as I can from the C drive, I've downloaded the latest video card drivers, I've run a ScanDisk, I've gone into safe mode and disabled all startup programs except for my anti-virus, I've run an anti virus scan and a spyware scan, and I've cleared all of my internet cookies (not that that actually helps anything, just saying). I don't know what to do. For no reason, it is just locking up. It can lock up from every 5 minutes, to every 10 minutes, to a matter of even a few seconds (it once froze just as it rebooted). I can think of no good reason as to why it is doing this. If it helps, here are my specs:

-AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ (1800 MHz)
-Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
-Nvidia GeForce 6600 LE

I'm not at all a computer whiz, and I know this may seem like a childish if not somewhat poorly thought out post, but I could really use some help. I'm not at all sure as to how much RAM I have, or my sound card.

Default Computer Freezing

Hello and welcome to TCF.

A few things you can try are.

Do a system restore to before your problem occurred. If that helps, then your problem is software related.

Check in your task manager to see if there`s any process running that coincides with the freezing.

If that doesn`t help, then it`s possible you have some kind of hardware problem.

Open the case and clean out all the dust and debris that may be present, especially from the heatsinks and fans. This is to help with any possible overheating problems.

Test your ram with Memtest86+ see HERE for instructions.

Test your hard drive, using your hard drive manufacturers diagnotic utility. If you can`t find it, try using the Powermax utility.

Let us know the results etc.

Regards Howard.
