Could I Have Help with Programme Transfers ?

Can someone please help a newby , how do I transfer programmes from the Control Panel Programme storelist to an external hard drive ?

You can't move an installed program as it is embedded in your registry. To use the software on another machine you need the actual pre Install files/CD/download then you need to install it fresh.

You can't move a program. You can move files but thats it

The only way I think you can do it is when installing a program

When installing the program you can pick where to install it to. Just make sure its on your external and not your C drive

I would use the external to store your files like photos and music as its a lot easier to move them over and you can then free up space on your main harddrive.

I have a 500gig external which I use for this and it keeps a lot off your pc

im sure if this is what you mean, but i can just copy and paste the program files files of a program on my computer and put it on another computer and just click on the .exe and it opens and works fine most of the time. even works with video games (cuz when i got back and forth between the OS's i dual boot).

That may work on simple stuff, but any serious application, as Dave said above, will install items in the registry and will most likely have additional modules stored in different folders too.

Much easier and safer to reinstall.
