you read it. and you know what i'm looking for. i want something that can run in the background and monitor the temperatures of my cpu, and maybe my graphics card. speed fan has tended to be unreliable so i'm not sure if i want to go down that road.

and i've tried everest before but that didn't seem to have temperature monitors. i could've been wrong though. anybody care to enlighten me some please?

Everest does have temp monitors,they are displayed in the toolbar when you run the program or within the program if you click computer/sensor.
Perhaps the free version is restricted somehow,I dont know.

cew, you're not the only one. i'm fairly OCD about that sort of crap too.

in terms of icons...here's how OCD i am...i keep all my icons at the very top of my desktop. that's just the start. part two: i haven't got enough icons to fill exactly one line. so i divide up the icons by two. half on one side. half on the other. and i have firefox exactly in the middle.

the icons that i've got divided are organized by type, color, and frequency of usage.

that's pretty OCD, yeah? ^^;;;

but anyway...yeah i tried speedfan, but i've heard that everest is far more reliable in terms of temps and voltages. so i'll try everest.

i dunno. when i tried everest, it was on my old setup. perhaps it was too old to have any fancy temperature censors in it that everest could recognize. hence why i was confused by it and eventually erased it and never tried it again. also why i thought it didn't have cpu temps in it.

i've gone so far as to find a widget that helps me identify cpu temperature and stuff like that. but eventually i found a widget that needed speedfan to operate. and that's when i had enough of that. understandably.

so as i said. everest for now. and i'll get back to you about whether i like it or not.

hm...i can't find a free version of everest. and i simply haven't got money. and i'm typically not willing to spend money on software that's not critical to my survival.

so i tried CoreTemp. and i have to say. i like it. and the results are drastically different from speedfan showed.

speedfan showed both my cores were operating at about 24-25 degrees Celcius. everest shows about 39-43 degrees celcius. which to me sounds roughly accurate.

i think coretemp is a keeper :)

despite being OCD about my icons and stuff, i occasionally manage to forget my keys and phone and other important items i need for outside of the house. :(

and those are day ruining things. for example: i commute to my campus by bike. and if i forget my keys, i can't tie up my bike. and theft in that area is sadly high for bikes. so if i forget my keys, i'm screwed unless i have a friend to help me out or i go back for the keys.
