Default Duplicate Mp3's and Jpegs

I was wondering if anyone can help out there. i am and avid pack rat with apparant OCD to boot. i have a tonh of duplicate mp3's and several duplicates of my daughter's baby pictures which i need to delete with confidence to free up space on my drives. i tried using a duplicate file finder program by ashisoft but it has given me nothing but trouble and dred trusting it because of such. i have a large music library of about 500 gig which seems to shut the thing down but it wont let me search individual folders only full drives. can any one recommend something with confidence i just upgraded to vista and have all thesze files on externasl drives right now and don't want to fill up with all the copies again. Thanks in advance.

have you tried sorting them by alphabetical order? that would bring duplicates to your attention pretty darn quick if they have the same file name...considering they're duplicates to begin with. maybe you should have some patience and go through it and make sure for yourself that it's all been taken care of. programs can be unreliable at times.

you are pretty much the best sorting program out there. use those eyes and sort through the junk. that's just personal opinion. if it were me and i were as "OCD" as you claim to be, i'd be OCD enough to want to go through all of it personally and do a thorough job.

and what happens if you download any program that would do such a task, and it accidentally deletes critical files? best safeguard against that is to do it yourself.

don't take this the wrong way. it may sound a bit more menacing rather than normal and calm. but it's merely a polite suggestion.
