I stand fully behind firefox and ad-aware though, I run ad aware pro actually :D
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on spywareblaster
Yeah I use FF myself, never really liked ad-aware, maybe its because I remember from the old days when it was complete rhubarb:)

McAfee SiteAdvisor
http://www.siteadvisor.com/download/ff.html
Safety ratings from McAfee SiteAdvisor are based on automated safety tests of Web sites (including of our own site) and are enhanced with user feedback from our users and our own manual analysis.

This tool is a nice addition to the best Anti-Spyware/Malware program out there. You!!! Careless clicking is what spyware and malware like the most.
It won't block any attack but will let you know if the page you are on has hidden nasties in it and would be best to stay away from.
The link given is for FireFox but you can choose from a selection browsers to install to.

I have used Spybot Search & Destroy and would recommend it http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html
Quote:
* detects and removes spyware
* clean usage tracks, an interesting function if you share your computer with other users and don't want them to see what you have been working on
* check this link for a full list of features - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/features/index.html
I use Zone Alarm to scan my whole system but for individual file scanning I use the free version of AVG Anti Virus that integrates into the shell for right click file scanning - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download...virus/us/frt/0
Quote:
  • Easy to use, low system resources
  • Automatic update functionality
  • Real-time protection as files are opened and programs are run
  • AVG’s Virus Vault for the safe handling of infected files
