I would agree with you there, xp at the moment is definately the better os. Vista does have a good look and feel but with past experience I have found it not to be very stable at the moment, especially with the dodgy updates that have sent a few peoples computers a little crazy.

XP for me, however Vista is coming a close second because of DX10 Support.

I use both Vista Ultimate and XP Pro.

Although I use Vista regularly (Laptop & Dual Boot System), if I had to choose which I prefer, it would be XP. The "eye candy" seems to compromise some areas of performance and does little for the user, other than look a bit swish.

There are good features in both Operating Systems, but IMO Vista offers very little more than XP and it is very difficult to justify the cost of upgrading from XP.
Vista seems quite stable, but I dont like the way it locks everything down, at installation.
I think Microsoft's idea was to protect new users from tweaking too many settings, to try reduce service calls etc., which is great for New users, but damn frustrating for experienced users, who have to change all the default (Fisher Price) settings, after each installation.

I like XP or Vista. XP was a huge improvement from 98 / 2000.

But actually my favorite is Server 2003. I think it is one of the most stable OSs ever made by Microsoft. Same for Server 2008, where you can chose what parts of the OS you actually want to install. But they ain't so great for a desktop.

Personally I'm not too bothered about the price, as I can get the vista 32bit upgrade (fully legit) for about £60

XP pro with vista theme. Mum has brand new HP pavillion with vista home premium, (2gb ram 3ghz processor) & my old dell optiplex GX50 runs faster! She wants it wiped but has no rollback option.
