I am trying to install Quickbooks and when it autoruns to install the application, a Windows Data Execution Prevention (DEP) error appears advising me that 'A Windows security feature has detected and closed the program'!! I have tried to change the advanced settings to allow DEP for all programs, which is recommended, which didn't work. I have also tried to change the advanced settings and select the programs I want it to accept..ie. setup, and it still doesn't work.

Does anyone have any ideas??

Any help would be very much appreciated...

Thanks in advance

Turn off:
Popup blockers
Firewall
Download excelerator.

Also if you don't mind saying, what site are you trying to download from?

I don't have a pop up blocker, the only thing that I use as a popup blocker is the one that already comes built in with Firefox. I don't use download accelerators and my firewall (McAfee) I have completly closed out of. I have Quickbooks on CD and I'm trying to run from the CD. I tried it on my dads computer and it seems to work fine.

Although...when I tried to turn off my firewall and run the CD again, I noticed that the DEP advanced settings had changed themselves back to where you're able to select which to allow, and 'setup' wasn't checked, so I checked it again and tried to run the CD again, but that still didn't work.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Sorry, I am at a loss as to where to try.

I know you have tried to change the advanced settings. So sorry if I am being redundant.
But I did find this. Maybe it will help in some way.
Adding Software Exceptions In Data Execution Prevention

I don't think you are being redundant at all. I thank you for the advice you have given me and for also finding the link. I am just reading through it now and I will try anything new that I may not have already tried. I will post my findings in here incase you ever come across this kind of problem again.

Once again...Thank you for your help

Just an update for you..I deleted 'setup' from the list and then re-added it again following the instructions on the link you posted and it now bypasses the DEP.

Thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it very much.
