Hello everyone im new to this forum but im hoping that you are all friendly enough to help (if you can).

Iv got a toshiba laptop which has windows xp installed. every so often the computer decides to minimze whatever im working regardless of whether its on the internet or running a normal program (i could be looking at pictures or playins solitare!). as you can imagine this is very frustrating when its happened four or five time on the trot. I am coming to the end of my patients and feel like throwing it through the winodw!!! ARRGH!!! it is also frustrating when it only happens on my user id and not on my partners.

If anyone can help i would be eternally grateful as it would stop me from reaching for the razor blades/sledgehammer!!!

  Yeah, i've heard of this a few times before.

On each and every occasion it was caused by a user download, or some spyware.

What you've basically got is some code telling windows to create macros on every window you open. Thats why they're minimizing.

First step, incase you've inadvertantly downloaded it, click on 'start' then 'search' type in 'macro' and see if you get anything. If you do and you're unsure what to do with it, post back.

Mind you, just because it was this before doesn't mean it is now, sorry to hedge, but you may not have even been online.

But i don't know of any utility within windows that allows this to happen.

If you can't trace the problem, I suggest you back up your data files and try installing a fresh operating system. Install reliable anti spyware and antivirus applications before installing the rest of your favorite applications.

That's a bit hasty, scan with some anti-virus and Ad-aware before you think about reinstalling the operating system. It may be what you have to do in the end, but if you don't, why bother?

I've had similar problems occur for me over the years and it may be i'm lucky but scanning with Ad-aware and other anti-ad software resolved it for me.

This is a weird error that I have never heard of before! If worst comes to worst you could always delete your user id and create a new one!

Try installing some antivirus programs + spyware removal programs, if neither of these work I'll lose my head!

Hi,
I have a suggestion and it is regarding the little pad where your mouse function is. Maybe you should check the settings and see if it is set at a sensitive setting for clicking. Sometimes the mouse can jump around on laptops and you may trigger a click while the mouse is sitting on the minimize button. I do not know how long you have had your laptop or how experienced you are with using that type of mouse control, but I thought I would offer this suggestion because in my experience, (short-lived as it may have been) I did have some difficulty adjusting myself to the function of the mouse system and found myself doing clicks where I really did not intend to. Good luck :)
