Looks like my problem is solved... 44.9 GB of free space and it's been that way for several hours now. I deinstalled McAfee and instead got the programmes you recommended. Thank you!!!

Well that is a relief I am sure.

Make sure that the windows firewall is turned off. I can't remember if the PC Tools firewall turns it off during installation or not. No need for two to run.

1. Open Windows Firewall by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Security, and then clicking Windows Firewall.
2. Click Turn Windows Firewall on or off. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
3. Click Off (not recommended), and then click OK.

It certainly is a relief... things are running much faster now too. The windows firewall was turned off already, I just checked. Thanks!

Kind of an irony that it took running antispyware to figure out that the antivirus was the culprit.

Oh well, at least it is under control and you have (in my opinion) better protection.

Just a little note for the future: TreeSize.

I;m afraid I;m back again... it's down to 38.1 GB now. I uninstalled McAfee, so I don't think that's the problem anymore, but I can't track this down now... I'll have a look at Treesize.

That way you'll at least be able to track down where the files are being saved to.
