Default Hi! new and i bring a serious performance issue!!

Hi, i am new to this forum, 1st post, look foward to making good use of it :D Unfortunatly tho, i come to this forum bringing a possibly complicated problem!!

Ok, My pc has been running real slow. it started when i 1st got the system, i installed a fresh copy of XP... performance slowly deteriated, then the Hard disk failed. I replaced that and started again. This more or less fixed the problem, system was running 90% fine but Its now getting worse again! there is no HDD faults this time as its new!

The performance issues used to be just on video playback (perticually vids on youtube etc) but now the whole system is working like your trying to use XP on incapable hardware.

My setup is. Epia REV-D 1ghz mini-itx motherboard, 512mb pc133 ram, Brand new 80gb segate momentus 2.5" hdd, 1 usb 2.0 pci card, onboard graphics and sound.

i have a few extra programs running like realplayer, avg, msn etc, and programs for my touch-screen, but nothing that should greatly effect performance.

i installed a fresh copy of XP the other day when i got me new hard disk, and for the 1st couple of days it was booting up in about 40sec.. but now its taking almost double that and the general performance of it has gone down hill.

there is no software installed on there that i haven't installed on any of my other computers, and they all work fine.

here is some data to look at :

Default Hi! new and i bring a serious performance issue!!

there's a lot of stuff that can be disabled in msconfig that you really don't need in there:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe
C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe
d:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe

that would be the first place I'd look; disable anything that says office, or adobe, or winzip, or anything that you don't NEED to run at startup, and would rather activate on your own. For instance, winamp dumps an autostart in msconfig, and what's the use of having that running the in background if you aren't using it? Just chews up processor speed.

The I/O looks fine, check the disk make sure it's not fragmented (I know, it's new, but this is windows), and I'm curious as to why the logon takes so long. Are you on a domain or workgroup? It may be trying to authenticate or used cached logon. For kicks, you can d/l ntregopt from majorgeeks.com; it does NOT touch the registry, merely compresses it, and that's usually a good thing to check if you have slow logon speeds, regardless of the age of the pc.

thanks,

v

**edit** log's clean, btw. :)
