Default Java (tm) Question?

Hi

Latest version is v6 update 13 - you should download this one, install it and then see if any of yours are still there. If they are, uninstall them. These newer updates uninstall older versions but I'm not sure how far back they'll go.

Default Java (tm) Question?

i have the same on mine, it doesnt seem to remove the old versions, just adds new ones. i just uninstalled the lot, then downloaded the latest version of java of their site. the uninstalls are quite, takes 5 mins to do.

i wasnt sure if uninstalling an older version would screw with a new version, hence the method above, worked fine!

Default Java (tm) Question?

Now that you're up to date, the next update version should remove v13 automatically.

Default Java (tm) Question?

Download and Install JavaRa

You'll find tools there to easily update your Java and remove any forgotten older versions.

Default Java (tm) Question?

What specs is the computer?

It's possible that if it was slow before anyway - it's just too old and knackered to run the new stuff.

Default Java (tm) Question?

Java does not remove older versions when you update, you have to do that manually via the windows control panel.

The older versions will have no effect on the speed of you computer and like any unused bit of software, they just sit there and do nothing. They only reduce the amount of free disk space you have. Now if the spare disk space is very small and you are low on memory, thus needing to use virtual memory, then that would slow things down a bit. But any other unused program taking up disk space in such a situation would do the same.
