I recently had to re-install windows on my laptop and since doing so I whenever I turn on my laptop after it has been on the "sleep" setting which it normally is on the connection to the internet takes longer than it used to. What usually happens now is that it appers to be connected when switched on then disconnects then re-connects again.

Have you got all the windows and network card updates?

Sounds to me like since re-install you havn't installed the software that came from the company making the network card/adapter, I had a similar situation when it took longer because Windows was manually detecting it, and getting its knickers in a twist wondering what to do with it.

Basically if you install the software that originally came with it, it will detect it very quickly because it knows exactly what it's looking for, and will connect almost instantly (When I had the problem the difference really was from about 10 mins down to 10 secs..)

Like has been said probably either a driver or piece of dedicated software missing. What is the laptop?

Do you mean software that came with NETGEAR?(router), and in response to your other reply what do you mean network card /adapter?

well, you can check windows updates (start>programs>windows update) and you can check the network card updates, by finding your card on the manufacturers website and downloading and installing the latest drivers from there.

If this isnt the computer that connects directly to the router, then software with the actual router won't do much good. By network card or adapter I mean like a USB device that you plug in, giving you wireless access.

If that came with your router then you'll just have to differentiate between the router software and wireless software.

As its Netgear, I'll have a look for a download if that makes it easier, I have it myself so I should be able to find some stuff wuite easily if that makes it easier (CDs can be a nightmare.. I lose half of mine..)

This isnt' the main computer that conencts to the router, this is my laptop that connects wirelessly, and the USB thingy that came in the netgear box i have never used it as i don;t know whats it for should i have been using it?
