Hi

My partners laptop, a 5 year old Packard Bell stopped working properly. I tried using the recovery programme, however when it starts a black box on a blue screen pops up with

'ntsd launcher.exe' (at the top)

then

'Please check your debugger configuration and/or network access'

Then lots of information with

*** error: Symbol flie could not be found. Defaulted to export symbols for ntdll.dll
ntdll!DbgBreakPoint:
77f767cd cc int 3

Can anyone help with this? Is this fixable? Thanks in advance

Am I right in thinking you are trying to restore from a recovery partion, if this is the case I am likely to believe the partition is currupted, I would try installing the operating system from disk,

Should have come with the PC if it was legit.

It was from PC world I think. There were no recovery disks with the computer, I think the idea was that you burnt a set off to use. Which she didn't do ! I have an old set of Packard Bell recovery disks but they are from ten years ago!......

I think I've got confused with what you're trying to achieve -

Are you reinstalling Windows, or rolling back/restoring drivers?

Windows crashed and when I tried to use the recovery programme it would not work and I got the message that I wrote at the start of this thread. I can't do anything with it now. Any kind of advice on what to do would be great. I have no disk to do a recovery as it was on the hard drive and we did not burn a copy off.

In that case you are a bit stuffed, unless you can borrow an XP (assuming XP) Installation Disk.
If you can, there are a number of things you can do to try recover her data, but as to a fresh install .... you will need your own copy, for license/activation.
