Default Log in freezing problem

Ok my problem is basically, whenever i log in my computer just freezes the time will vary on when it does, i have also heard a wierd sound sometimes when it does, i have no idea what this problem is i can only guess the hard drive, ive tried taking the wires out and putting them back in, this problem started to happen a couple of days ago, but was not as bad, it would only happen once or twice, can anyone help?

Does the mouse freeze? Could be overheating so check all your fans for even the smallest amount of dust.

Could also run check disk on the HD to rule that out if in doubt.

It could be that your registry is corrupted too. Can you try logging in in safe mode?

(Hold down F8 as the computer starts, until you get a text menu, then choose Safe Mode with Networking.)

If you mean that you can log in but later the PC freezes, then it could be many things, such as overheating, disk needs checking, etc. If you can log in long enough, right click C: drive, Properties, Tools, Disk Check and choose to repair file system errors, then reboot.

If you can connect your drive to another PC as a slave (BEWARE! You need to jumper it!) you can check it there, or a live CD will allow you to run a disk check too.
