Several days ago my old IBM Thinkpad was infected by some sort of malware. I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and I went to go read while it searched and destroyed. When I came back the computer had restarted so I wasn't sure if it solved the problem or not, but when I logged on there seemed to be no traces of the virus. A few days later, a bunch of things have been happening to my computer. It runs incredibly slow, there are random popups all the time, my firewall is disabled seconds after I enable it, and I get IP Address Conflicts every 10 seconds. Also, it constantly shows the pointer with the hourglass, even when I'm just at the desktop and nothing. I tried to run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware again and it crashed before it could finish the scan. I then ran 3 scans from Advanced SystemCAre Free and it said I was clean, so I tried to install Service Pack 3 to see if that would do anything. After all the scans and virus removals and service pack 3, nothing has helped. And after I decided to install SP3, all the text on the computer got switched to a different font and it looks weird. If there is any tips you could give me, I would love to here them. Thank you.
Side Note: Firefox has crashed twice and disconnected 3 times since I started writing this. |

Hello footynutdyl,
Your anti-malware didn't do it's job. You have a couple of options, reclean your system, delete the partition and reinstall the OS. If you do a reclean do it from the 'Safe Mode'. In safe mode you have the minimum drivers loaded on the OS. A better way would be use a boot cd or pen drive with either BartPE or ERD Commander (if you can find it). Then run your anti- programs. I recommend you run virus, torjan, spyware, and malware cleaning programs. If you decide to boot from an external device I recomend you back up your data that you want ot keep, becareful of the favorites, some malware is being transmitted by web sites now, if you know of a web site that is promoting malware then submit a complaint to the Search Engines such as Google and Yahoo to have them banned. When you have done you cleaning job disconnect the computer from the network when you do your restart to check it, if the malware is still present it will try to connect to the network, sometimes you get an error from your browser that the network is not avalable that is the clue that the malware is still there. If you decide to reload the OS use a boot device with either BartPE or ERD commander to delete your partitions, when you use an unkown boot OS the malware can't activate. After you delete your partitions restart with the OS install cd. Your malware should be gone. Hope this helps...
