found a fault with my sata harddrive, hence why it never seems to boot first time

just a ganeral question on minimising the fuss on the switch over can i still access me current HD so when i replace it can i link both up and copy all files OS included onto my new HD, then remove the old one and carry on as normal

i knw some programes have to be reinstalled to work, or thats what i have read

so would this work, and if it does, would it just be easier to put both harddrives in, boot from my vista cd, install it on the new drive and move the files as needed. cheers all!

Dave

p.s sorry for any spelling mistakes on misses computer and hate the keyboard lol

If you clone the drive, with some clone software, then you won't need to re-install anything.

Acronis Easy Migrate will do this job superbly. Offers a one time trial of a drive clone too which is pretty good, check it out if you want to do a drive clone =)

If you current setup is clean then do the clone, it's a lot less hassle. No drivers, software and other customization to install.

Definatly. Make sure you do - it's not worth the risk on how pssd you'd be with yourself if it did go wrong and you hadn't.

I find setting all the software up the biggest pain when doing a re-install.

Like favorites, browser customization, adding accounts and sigs to outlook, saved passwords. The list is endless.
