Default Need Help Wiping and Installing New OS on OLD Laptop!

I would like for someone to give me details on how to completely wipe and remove all files from my old Advent 7340 and install a new OS. I am thinking of using Puppy Linux as i want a efficient operating system for it to run. It is currently running XP Pro SP1. Help would be much appreciated.

Download Boot and Nuke, nuke the drive, install whatever you want on it. Might be a good idea to grab any drivers beforehand too. I wouldn't install any Linux distro on a laptop but it's your call.

Not usually, if theres nothing on the hard drive then it should boot from the OS cd.
