My valuable files were gone, and I really wish to restore them. Can you propose any tool that can perform this oeration on XP, NTFS?

You may like to try the following:

Roadkils Undelete - 60KB
Roadkil's Undelete

Restoration - 415KB
Restoration download and review - file undelete utility from SnapFiles

PC Inspector File Recovery - 5.83MB
PC INSPECTOR File Recovery

The above applications were recommended to me. Try them with caution. I suggest you experiment using another hard drive.

There is a single recovery tool on any Windows OS called "System Restore," you can use this and it should be sufficient! You could use the above programs, but I wouldn't recommend it considering you wouldn't have Microsoft's support if anything went wrong!
