Your right about the way I worded the question. I bought a new desktop with the above specs.
If I install Windows XP Pro, would it run like a champ? 3gigs of ram should make it pretty quick I would imagine.

So should I install xp pro on there or keep it with vista sp1?

Just your thoughts on this is what I'll make my determation from.

Many thanks to you both,

Stay with Vista SP1.

Why take a backwards step. XP is old, Vista is new. I am going to upgrade all our home and office computers to Vista this Christmas break, might as well get up to date.

Fancy doing mine while your at it?

And yea, I would say stick with Vista SP1 unless you are actually having problems with it.

I agree it is taking a step back, i'm not found of all the compatability issues, even though you can set them to run in xp.

But Windows 7 is coming out soon as well. Once we get used to vista (which i had on my laptop) it wasn't bad, espacially doing some tweeks, we will be getting Windows 7 im sure on every new station bought.

And I notice you both are still useing xp, which isnt a bad thing.

Going from Vista to Windows 7 soon and vista has been out *2years?)

Any thoughts on that?

Well if you have a copy of Vista that you can put on, do it, if you would need to buy one, I would say stick with XP (sorry from the way I read it it sounded as thought you had a copy, but now from what your saying, it sounds like you don't) However I don't think there is as much difference between Vista and Windows 7 as there was between XP and Vista.

Microsoft never intended on having such a big gap between ME and XP, and have sworn there will never be such a big gap again.

Windows 7 - Yes it's coming, but it is a very long way off. It may be on new computers at the end of 2009 around Christmas, but who knows.

I also have a theory that a lot of IT places will entirely skip Vista, and roll from XP onto Windows 7.

As thingie said, there is also less or a difference between Vista and 7.

Why is it that the OS comes installed and you have no way of reinstalling the OS?
It would be nice if they threw in an iso of it with the key for use if you have to do a clean install.

Can you contact the maker and ask for one or is there a way to tell what your serial is?
Not to be ment as a hacking method but more or less if you need to borrow someones because you dont want to pay the $ for the disk. Please do not take this comment the wrong way.

As always,

Thanks,
