Is anyone out there using online storage? Is it safe? How does it work? Any good companies out there? Thanks!

Some are safe and some are scams, make sure to do your research before putting any data out there, and I personally never put confidential info using online storage, maybe i'm old fashioned, but I use my external drive for that stuff.
http://www.dropbox.com/ is legit
You can use your gmail account as an online storage device, its free and you get about 8GB of storage! As an added bonus you can use it an a network drive for easy access, heres the link http://www.nirmaltv.com/2010/08/17/m...ve-in-windows/

I'm doing some research and I'm reading some bad things about online backup, such as slow recovery time - it could take hours or days to recover - and safety concerns, but there are some technologies that are much safer, such as PGP for encrypting file stored remotely and SSL for encrypting files during backups and restores. Does that stuff actually protect you??
Gmail is offering free online storage of more then 8 gb also for images
we are using it and i think it is best in online storing data.

I have never really tried Online storage at all, i just don't like the idea of having all of my stuff sitting in another server/computer around the world, it seems a little insecure.
I might try it in the future, but i prefer to know where my info is at all times

I have to agree, would rather burn anything that important to DVD and keep it in a safe place.
DropBox.com is a very neat place. You get 2GB Free and you can gain I think an extra 2GB each referral. But, you are limited to only up to 8GB of Online Storage. With DropBox you can download/upload the files online or straight from a folder that will be created on your machine. Of course you can only upload files with internet. Other than that I am absolutely satisfied.
I personally think that Gmail is best online storage service provider. If you already have a Gmail account, you can use it as a central file server that is accessible from anywhere you can access Gmail. You have to Download GMail Drive setup file; install and you will see a new drive named “GMail Drive” in My Computer. Drag and drop, batch copy, create folders and delete files as you normally would in Windows Explorer, and be able to access your virtual drive from virtually anywhere. Gmail doesn't support files larger than 10MB, so you won't be able to store large movie files or anything. Gmail drive shell extension only functions under Windows XP, but you'll be able to access and download any of your files via any operating system and browser combination supported by Gmail.
I use Dropbox to synchronise my files between devices. It allows a really elegant solution to have my
\Users\\Me
folder synchronised between my desktop, laptop, mobile, and any web browser I log in on.
It's 250MB per referral. 8GB is the max free (by referral) storage. If you pay, you can get 100GB - although if you give them a call you can get far more than that as required.

I keep all of my important/sensitive files in an external drive, but I keep some pictures, videos, papers, etc. on https://one.ubuntu.com/
It's 5GB for free and I can choose to auto-sync from my Bionic.

There are a lot of sites you can use for online storage. But the best thing you can do is find one yourself which is tailored to your needs. Go to Google and google some of the sites and find reviews on them, that should assist you in deciding which site is best for you.
