Default Only safe mode

Hi, New member, my problem is that my computer will only start in "safe mode", if I try in normal mode the only thing on the screen in the moiuse pointer, cannot enter device manager or anything else. My computer is a 2000 e machine with 1-256 & 1-128 ram ...

Hi, New member, my problem is that my computer will only start in "safe mode", if I try in normal mode the only thing on the screen in the moiuse pointer, cannot enter device manager or anything else. My computer is a 2000 e machine with 1-256 & 1-128 ram memory.O/p syst. Windows XP Proff. with all updates up to about a week ago. Any suggestions?

Welcome to CJ!

Boot in safe mode, open my computer, right click your hard drive, then properties, then tools, then error checking.

Check the automatically fix errors and start, will probably need a reboot.

That will fix any file errors and fixes a lot of problems, failing that I'd do an XP repair using your operating system CD.

Hi. have found the solution to my problem, I have had 2-anti-virus programs running,thougt I had uninstalled the first one but seemed to be quietly running in thje background,had to delve into the registry to sort this out. Now boots as it should do. dAVE

If it was, you want to run the Norton Removal Tool to be sure.

Yep .... definitely, otherwise it will leave fragments on your system, that will interfere with other av software.
