Hi all
Have just come into posession of a laptop with windows vista
id like to partition the hard drive and install xp so i have a dual boot option but not sure which is the best software to do it on vista so advice needed and sought
its running home premium v slow though

hi m8
Did the steps as described from 1-4 but when when it rebooted it couldnt find the new drive,
and i have lost 30gb, any ideas on how to get it back?

Have you created the new partition ? ..... if not, go to Control Panel/Admin Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management .... you should see unallocated space, with which to create the partition.

sorry for taking my time responding philthomas, when i look at the c drive from my computer it has about 90gb of space, when in disk management it shows 127gb and no unallocated space so it seems to have disappeared

Can you describe exactly what is shown in Disk Management then .... in the Central panel's upper and lower windows.

It sounds to me as though you have successfully shrunk the C: Drive, but not created the new partition, but it is difficult to advise you properly, without seeing what you are seeing
