Default Re Booting

I have been given a computer which I want to use for very basic work such as word processing and spreadsheets. I have the software to put on it, but would like advise on clearing out what is already on the computer prior to loading the new software. Sorry if this sounds a pretty basic a job to all you experts out there, but I am pretty much a novice regarding this kind of procedure.
Hope You Can Help

First of all welcome to the forums.

You could wipe the machine and re-install windows if you have windows on CD?

This would however require some know-how or guidance.

Put the CD in the drive and boot from it.

Then follow the instructions.

There are plenty of guides online, have a google for them.
