Default Scheduled Task Question

I've been messing around with my computer's sound scheme and I came across the scheduled task option which brought some ideas to my head. I made a scheduled task and later found out that it requires the account password to work; so i made a password on the account and it worked. However I came across the findings that if you set an account password, then you have to log in every time you start the computer as if there are multiple accounts.

My question is: Is there any way to make a scheduled task without making the computer enter the log in screen? Since I'm the only one using my computer, it's much more convenient for me to push the power button and come back in 1min without having to type the password.

Default Scheduled Task Question

I have not had any problems with this!?? When you set up a scheduled task it asks for the user to run it as and asks for the password twice!

When the task is run, those credentials are used to run the task. There is no GUI login.

If you get TweakUI from Microsoft, you can similarly get the PC to auto-login at startup with the same password.

Default Scheduled Task Question

I'm not sure the problem is described correctly or the wrong names are being used for features.

There are a few different ways to avoid the log in screen in XP. Mike's is my preferred method as TweakUI is a very handy tool to have besides just this function.

Look here - Annoyances.org - Get Rid of the Logon Screen

Default Scheduled Task Question

ok i'll try to describe it a little better. I wanted to create a scheduled task on my computer, so i opened the scheduled task window in the control panel and created a task. I then selected a music file as a task to be performed at a designated time. I clicked okay and applied the task. I then decided to test it, so i right clicked on the task icon and clicked "run". The task status stated "The scheduled task did not run because an incorrect password or user name was entered." So i opened the task again, set a password that requested to be typed twice, and when i clicked apply a window showed up stating "An error has occurred while attempting to set task account information. The specific error is: 0x80070005: Access is denied. You do not have permission to perform the requested operation." Then I google searched the error code and a few websites said that no task will work unless the account that is running has a password that is the same as the password requested by the task manager. After that, i made a password for my account (the only one on this computer), put that password in the scheduled task, and when i told the task to run, it worked. However later when i turned my computer on, I was sent to the log in screen and I had to type in my password, instead of just being sent straight to my desktop.

What I would like to be able to do is to make a scheduled task that will run at a certain time without requiring me to type my password in every time i turn my computer on.

Ahh. I understand the problem now.

The simplest method would just be to create another user with admin privileges. Call it something like STask. Make sure you give it a password.

Then set the scheduled task you want to run with the user name and password of the user you just created.

Then set your normal account to log in automatically when Windows starts and you should be good to go.

I see now. TweakUI will let you bypass the login screen. You just enter your password in it and the login screen will come up but then TwaekUI will enter the password and log you in automatically. It may take a few extra seconds to get you to the desktop but it does work.
