it might be because windows is clearing the page file when it shuts down, try this:
Start Registry Editor and navigate to the following key: [HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management] Set ClearPageFileAtShutdown value to 0 Or, using Group Policy Editor [for Windows XP Professional] Click Start, Run and type Secpol.msc |

has this always been an issue or just recently?
right click my computer>properties>click hardware tab>device manager>double click computer. if you do not see ACPI listed in there this may be the issue.... |

An interesting theory... What makes you think this could cause a slow shutdown?

I know there are issues with ACPI and XP when it comes to shutting down automatically. If XP does not detect your BIOS as ACPI capable then it will not install an acpi HAL which controls the automatic shutdown in XP. Im not sure if Fantastvik receives a message stating it is now ok to shut your computer down or not, but this is the message you get if you do not have acpi capability when your computer is ready to shutdown...

I have never seen this in XP though, more common in 95 / 98. Good thinking though.
