Default Simple fast incremental back up?

Hi - I'm new here so please tell me if this thread should really be somewhere else...

My question is - I wish to back up my hard drives daily. I currently use Paragon hard disk manager 6 but find it tediously slow - it's actually quicker to copy and paste 60 gigs worth of files onto my back up drive than use its incremental back up feature - and a lot easier! What I'd really like is something that allows me to back up all my files to an external drive, so that drive is an exact mirror of my working drive (with visible folder hierarchy, accessable files etc.), and then at the end of the day I press one button and 'zap!' all the changes I've made during my day are transferred to my back up - so my back up drive is exactly the same as my working drive. At least I'd like something faster than Paragon.

Does anyone know of a way of doing this?

Thank you very much, Khechog

There are a few programs that can do that. A couple that I am aware of are Second Copy, and Genie backup Manager. I use second copy and think its a good program. I backup everything regularly to an external hard drive.

It has many different backup options and after it has backed up the first it will then only change files that have changed, therefore the process is relatively quick. It gives you an exact copy of whatever you ask it to backup. You can even specify folders to be ignored. I backup my computer and girlfriends computer to the same hard drive so the hard drive is connected via a server box so both computers can connect to it. This makes the process slower and sometimes creates issues with Second copy's temp files, but I think this is related to the server box I use as I never have any problems when the hard drive is directly connected to the computer. The program is very versatile and easy to use. You can it to manual backup or automatic based on time, or for example every time the computer is shut down. I think you can get a 30 trial version at download.com so you can give it whirl and see what you think.

There are a couple of free backup programs in our Downloads Section

If they do not work for you and you do find a free program for what you need please let us know. I am always interested in good free software. Thanks.

Default Simple fast incremental back up?

Hi - thanks for the replies - I did a search for free back up progrmmes and found quite a few listed on Link Removed - I tried the SyncBack 3.12.4.0 software and it's exactly what I was looking for - I can't understand how I spent 40 or £50 on something that runs so slowly and is so complicated (fair enough the Paragon software does loads more and I initially bought it for creating partitions which it does very well). Syncback also have a newer version which isn't free but I'm getting along very nicely with this thank you.

Thanks for the advice folks!

Khechog

Sorry mate had to remove the link.

McAfee Site Advisor reports adware and virus being packaged with downloads from there.

Here is a link to the parent site if anyone is interested. http://www.2brightsparks.com/
