Software causing PC to go haywire?

I bought a new camera today, and as with cameras now, there's software to install onto your PC. So I installed the software that came with the camera and that all went fine. However, the problem started when it came to restart my PC after installation.
I thought, installation over, eject CD and the press 'restart.' But it then said something like, 'cannot find the appropriate disk etc..' so I put the CD back in, but it didn't make a difference because soon after my PC started to shut down to restart. So when it was shutting down, I thought it was ok to take the CD out, so I did that, and then my PC finished shutting down and I thought it would start up again, the loading screen would come on for Windows XP on the monitor and all would be well, however no loading screen came onto my monitor... nothing. So after 5min of a black screen (computer still running), I pressed the start button on the PC and it shut down immediately.
I then waited approx 4 sec or something, then started it up again, still nothing.

Then I pressed the start button again to turn it off, but then turning the monitor off as well, and then turning everything off at the power point, waited 5sec, plugged cord back in, and started my PC again, and it started up this time.
When I was back into XP, a box came up saying that the software had successfully been installed and that I should connect my camera, so I did that, but then my camera said, 'Connection Failure.' Everything was plugged in securely. Soon after this, my entire screen went a skin/cream colour and nothing I pressed/pushed could get the screen back to normal. So again, I pressed the start button to turn it off (monitor and powerpoint). Then I started it up again, and after XP had loaded up again, I knew by now something wasn't right. I noticed that there was a black thick-like strip that appeared for no more than a second on my monitor, and thought that maybe something was wrong with my graphics card(?) (even though this PC is not even 2 weeks old, it's brand new, and if it helps, my graphics card is an 8800GT). So I thought I'd load up a game to see if I could play a game (I just loaded up Guild Wars) and not 30 sec after logging in, my monitor went black.
(Sorry for post being so long, almost done)..
So after about 5min I (again) pressed the start button to turn it off, but when I came to turn it back on, nothing displayed on the screen, for about 3 tries. Finally, I just left it off for about 1/2 an hour and came back and turned it on, and it loaded successfully.
I then immediately uninstalled the camera software (just in case) and now posting this here, because I want to know whether the software installed could have done this? Or whether it was my actions? Or the start-up registry files going weird? (Oh, with registry files, spybot S&D came up with a pop up saying that something wanted to change the registry start-up registry files, and I allowed it assuming it was the camera software. I wasn't in any web browser when spybot announced this).

This PC is brand new, and I'm a computer enthusiast, so I know things about PC's, but not something like this. I hope that someone might be able to give me insight as to what happened. Is my PC going to be ok? I know starting and shutting it down continuously isn't good, but I didn't know what else to do. =[

Is the computer running fine now the software has been removed? You haven't had any more problems with it after you uninstalled it? If not then yes it sounds to me like the camera software but it is odd that it should do something like this.

What software is it? I remember I loaded some Kodak Software onto my computer and it was a nightmare, my camera doesn't need it so i removed it straight away.

Did you try and load up your computer in safe mode when you were having trouble with it loading up? Also have you updated your drivers since you bought your PC as these might not have come with the computer when you bought it. Check the device manager and check for a (!) next to your graphics card slot. I think it is unlikely that it is a hardware problem if you have not been having trouble with any other graphic intensive activities such as running guild wars.

So yeah, what software is it you were trying to load?

Hey,
Sorry about the multiple posts, won't happen again (just wasn't sure which section it should go into).

The software I installed was for Fuji FinePix S500. It said in the manual that I shouldn't connect the camera to my PC without having installed the software first. I don't know anymore than that.

There aren't any more problems now, and my PC is running supposedly normal, now that the software has been uninstalled, however I'm still paranoid that something could have happened with my PC internally.
The drivers should be updated, as I updated my PC sometime last week, and I don't know if it makes a whole lot of difference or helps in any way, but my PC was bought custom built rather than off the shelf.
I forgot to load in safe mode until after I had uninstalled the software (I'm slow like that... -_-").

I'm at an Internet cafe at the moment, but when I get back home I'll check for the '!' next to my graphics card.

What if I just plugged my camera into my PC without having installed the software? Would doing so cause any problems with my camera and/or PC?
