Hello,
The other day i registered on a general forum and every time i'm logged in there i 'm having those click sounds and this "x items remaining"-thing on my taskbar, so as if the site opened/downloaded every 5ish seconds.
i asked the admin and he said that it had sth to do with a chat refresh.
But after i log out and leave i'm still having that click.
A friend said "No big deal, no harm" but couldn't say what it is.
A trifle, but what can it be?

Have you done any spyware scans?

The standard Emergency Repair which fixes 90% of all problems - power off, count to ten, restart. You've done that already and it didn't make it go away.

Then some site has left something unwanted on your hard drive and adaware or an equivalent will wipe it away perhaps.

The noise is coming from your Start Navigation setting in the Sounds and Multimedia area of your control panel, you can make it shut up by selecting No Sound for that event. You still need to tidy the mess sometime though.

If you see a log entry of what caused it when you're cleaning please post it here. I'll be interested.

It sounds as if it could well be malware related especially if it still happens even after you log out.

Go to the Virus, Spyware & Security Forum

Do everything in the first post in this post.

Then start a new thread in that forum and post the Hijack This log you created.

Someone will look over it and suggest a course of action.

I do realize that "adaware or an equivalent will wipe it away perhaps" is pitifully inadequate, I'm glad you showed up.

Very often we will just use a program similar to Ad-Aware to remove spyware. However, sometimes tools are needed that are not available to the general public and that is when you need to have expert help.

Before suggesting Ad-Aware, check out the problems with them. Spybot SD is probably a better choice at the moment.

You would be best to do the steps in this post before you start a thread there.
