Hi,
My Dell PC takes a long time loading, an extremely long time. I think part of the problem may be the java updates I have installed. There seem to be so many of them, are they all even necessary? They keep prompting me to install more updates! The tray on the bottom right corner takes a long time to load. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions on speeding on my PC? I have defragmented the disk, scanned the disk for errors, emptied my temporary folder and deleted large unnecessary programs but it still hasn't made much of a difference. Would appreciate some suggestions, regards, Ian |

Remove anything you dont use. Any thing else can be disabled from running at startup if need be.

Thanks for the reply,
I am running McAfee, used to be running avast but renewed my subscription with McAfee. I ve got a Dimension 5150, 3GHz, 1GB RAM. I am aware that more RAM the better, but I think i mite be able to delete some unnecesary java aplets to speed it up. |

1GB should be fine, Avast is leagues beyond McAfee in terms of resource drain and even protection imo. I would swap back. You should notice a big improvement. Other than that remove anything in add/remove programs you don't need and see how that fairs.

Kool,
Which Avast do you use? Do you pay subscription for yours? Lol. I can't believe I just renewed my subscription to McAfee! |

Avast free, most people here would recommend the same or AVG free.
There is no need to pay. Most of the big paid stuff like Norton and McAfee are bloated, overpriced junk. Popular off the back of big marketing budgets and cahoots with stores and PC builders. |

I would reccomend using Start, Run, Msconfig and disabaling any junk start up programs or services this will improve genereal speed of system and will make start ups alot faster.
Secondaly I agree with the above posts dont use mcafee or nortan these are power hungry and really dont do a good job to say you have to pay for them, I would reccomend AVG. Also you could use a program called ( Ccleaner ) this cleans anyhting to do with internet browsing and also you cna clear registry files with will improve speed dramitically. Also regular spyware scans and virus scans malware and adware scans will keep other people using your pc resources. Lastly keep a good clean Operating system hard drive in regualar order with a more than regular Disk fragmentation and this can be found in system tools. |

You never said what OS you have, but there are known issues with McAfee and Vista.
