Default studio software

do any of you guys know any studio type software for recording tracks via microphone, and then adding them together, like a 4 track etc

where you have the ability to to see the tracks and then move them about to start and stop at specific times, im sure you guys know what i mean but if you dont ill be abit more detailed:D ooo and preferably FREE software i only want it to lay down some demos from my guitar

I use FL Studio for making dance music, it's very good but isn't free.
