Why can't they just make it auto update??? They push updates out so often.

I think this update was due to the 64-bit plug in.
The transition to a 64-bit world continues. Sun Releases 64-bit Java Plug-In Maybe now we can get back to one, maybe two updates a year like it used to be. |

Yes it's important. New versions include security patches.
After installing it use JavaRa to completely remove all older versions. Download JavaRa
|

Haven't seen talk of a new one yet. Since the new Java builds are removing the prior version they might not need to update it too many more times.
