I don't need the names of programs for future reference or anything, but I need to know if there's any way I can find out if my computer was switched on earlier today. Is there a log of internet activity I can view or a log of when my computer was last switched on and off? Anything like that at all?
The reason is, my girlfriend says she spoke to me on msn earlier today. She said I said one sentence to her and then I disappeared. I logged onto msn later in the day and I found messages that she sent me when I had gone offline, so sure enough I, or someone else, had indeed logged into msn. The time the conversation was supposed to have occurred was midday, and I know for a fact that I was in a deep sleep at that time. I sleep right next to my computer (switched off), so the only explanations are that I was either sleep-writing, or someone hacked into my msn from a different computer. My computer was switched off when I woke up later in the day, so I just really want to find out if it was on at that certain time. Thanks. |

Depending on the messages sent, it could be malware, so you might want to change your password, preferably from a different computer.
What version of Windows are you using? |

The message certainly sounded a lot like me. It was also apt to the person I was speaking to, so if it wasn't me who wrote it then it was definitely someone who knows me.
I'm on Windows XP. |

Check the messenger logs if they are turned on...

But I already know full well that the conversation took place, and at what time; I just need to know if it was made from my computer, and therefore by me in my sleep.

You can check the event log, if it has things in there from when the PC should have been off, then somebody put it on.
If I remember rightly it's in Control Panel > Admin. Tools > Event Viewer |

Thanks. That seems to have solved the mystery. There was no activity from 6am to 6pm, meaning it was someone else on a different computer. That's kind of worrying. Hopefully my msn is just set to automatically log on to someone else’s computer that I've been on. That way at least no one knows my password, and I can just change it and forget about it.
