Hi O Clever Ones

I have a problem with my audio output on my Satellite P200 running xp sp3.i can play and hear sounds
(music, streaming video and spotify etc) but the output seems to stick quite often, its a bit like fat boy slim as been mixing my sounds,

I have removed and reinstalled the Realtek HD Audio v5.5 but, restored pc to a known good restore point, but to no avail

It almost sounds like a memory problem where the audio device sticks on one note but it will continue ok for a couple of
seconds before sticking again!

Any asistance would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks
Andy

I have scanned with anti malware with no errors and included a HighJack This log.

1.
Open Device Manager.
2.
Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers to display the list of controllers and channels.
3.
Right-click the icon for the channel to which the device is connected, select Properties, and then click the Advanced Settings tab.
4.
In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, what do you see. DMA or PIO mode?

Thanks for replying Dave

I cannot see which channel is used for my audio but i have primary and secondary IDE channels.

Primary - transfer = DMA if available. CCurrent transfer mode = PIO Mode

Secondary - transfer = DMA if available. Current transfer mode = Ultra DMA Mode 2

hope this helps

Neither are used for audio, they are your hard drive/cd rom channels.

When you PC has an error or is not shut down properly the harddrive is put in PIO mode, which means the whole machine runs slow to make sure it does not hit more errors and cause more damage to the drives. This makes everything slow including sound playback.

Delete the primary channel by selecting it in device manager and press the delete key. Then reboot and check to see if it is now in DMA mode.

My Satellite A65 has the same problem as yours. Can you share the solution?
