Hello everyone I have a Uniwill notebook computer or is also a IBUYPOWER Battalion notebook as well. The link to the Uniwill computer is listed below.
http://www.uniwill.com/products/hybr...3.php?HL=1&H=1
When I bought this computer and up until about 2 months ago it had USB 2.0 ports (3 of them) but now every time I plug a device into them the bubble comes up saying that "this device could run faster, try plugging it into a USB 2.0 port."
I pretty much tried everything to fix this. I got updates off the Uniwill website, I went into the computer device manager to update the driver manually and even tried such software as "Driver Genius Pro" and "Driver Magician" and have come up with no luck on either of them. I was just wondering if any of you could lend any help in fixing this problem. Thanks

Here is one way to work around the problem. Remove all USB device entries from the Device Manager and force them to be redetected. Then, follow these nine steps:

1. Obtain a PS/2-interface mouse and keyboard. Shut the machine off and plug those in, as this will prevent any problems that occur when you disable USB devices and then suddenly lose keyboard/mouse support. (If you use a PS/2 keyboard/mouse already, then you can continue normally.)

2.Do not unplug or remove any of your normal USB devices, including any USB controllers.

3. Boot the system in Safe Mode by pressing F8 at boot time.

4. Open the Device Manager by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Manage, then expand the Device Manager from the left-hand tree.

5. Expand the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" tree in the right-hand pane.

6. Remove each device in turn by right-clicking on it and selecting Uninstall.

7. After you remove all USB devices, shut down the computer and replace the USB keyboard and mouse (if you were using them).

8. Reboot normally. The system will then redetect and re-enumerate all USB devices, which may take a few minutes.

9. After everything is reinstalled, plug in a high-speed USB 2.0 device and make sure it works normally.

Hope it works for you

Hey thanks for posting back so quickly. but I tried your steps but the problem still persists. Let me see if I did this correctly I unplugged all my usb devices from the ports and then restarted the computer in safe mode. Then I uninstalled all the usb devices in device manager, this includes the 4 usb host controllers and 4 usb root hubs. And then restarted the computer with a mouse plugged in to the usb port. And I dont have a usb keyboard anywhere so I hope that doesnt effect the process. But when I restart my computer it redetects all the USB host controllers but they are still the usb 1 not the 2.0. I understand that the device should read intel(r) 82801FB/FBM USB2 Universal Host Controller, instead of intel(r) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller but I still keep on getting the second one. Thanks again for your help

You could check in your bios to make sure they are set as USB2.0

Is there another program that you can edit the bios with because when I restart my computer and hit F2 to open the bios there is no setting for usb.

Nope none worth mentioning that wont do more harm than good

I will try to figure this out, but at the moment im out of ideas!

Oh make sure your operating system is completely up to date, if using XP make sure you select custom, so that you can see if you are missing any updates there

I have the same problem. I own the IBUYPOWER Battalion version. I have had this problem for a while now. Just happened to get around to working on it today and found this thread. Unlike you, I cant be certain that mine ever worked in USB 2.0. What is the possibility that the MB only has 1.1 installed? It was built in early '06. Let me know if you find an answer elsewhere please. I'll do the same.

Well if they never worked in USB 2.0 then its most likely you just have USB 1.1. But who knows its the same computer so it might be the exact same problem im having. Ive owned a few IBUYPOWER computers now and I dont think ill ever go back to buying their computers. Yeah they are cheap and pretty fast but ive had a lot of problems with the ones ive bought from them. Let me know if you find out how to fix it.
