Default Video file converter

I have been in search for a good video file converter. That is it can convert from one video file to another. Some of my favorite video files require me to install special players which crowd my limited hard disk space.

What type of formats are you trying to convert?

You could also try installing a codec pack to avoid the converting altogether.

I'm actually looking for a free application with a multi format conversion feature just to give me the flexibility if I would like to convert from one media format to another. I'm not really into video so my apology for my ignorance.

Finding a decent free application isn't going to be easy but I've found a piece of software on Download.com that might be able to help. It's free to try and costs $29.95 to purchase (I'm guessing around the £16 mark?).

It supports the following formats;

AVI, MPEG/MPG 1/2/4, VCD/SVCD/DVD, DivX, ASF, WMV, RM, QuickTime MOV MP4, and Flash SWF.

Aparently they claim it will convert a whole AVI movie to DVD in 90 minutes.

Anyway give it a try and see what you think

EDIT:

I just found this one which IS free and will work with less formats, but it's worth trying out, see if it does what you need it too do.

Download Free Video Converter 6.1.0.0

Crimsonc, I may even try the second one!

There are many free converters that support AVI/MPG/FLV but it is very rarely shall you find one that supports any other formats.

Please remember that most free converters will leave watermarks! Nevertheless, it is worth a try!
