Hi all

Our company (only 6 employees) has a VPN setup (just the microsoft windows XP one) which lets all of the staff access a main computer in our office. That way the two drilling crews are able to login and update drilling data no matter where they are. It also has some more benefits which stops us just using e-mail.

To cut the story short whenever two people try to log on, the first person who is connected is kicked off the connection. This can obviously be really annoying if in the middle of something important.

Can anyone suggest a program or method to stop this happening? If we have to install new software I would be the one monitoring and keeping it all running. Thanks in advance for any replies!

I am guessing you guys are using one account. Try making user accounts for each person and have them log in with their own account. If you are using just one account for everyone that will happen and if you are allowing anonymous connections then it is insecure. If you do have separate accounts per person then post so and i will suggest other things.

Also, if you are using terminal services, make sure you actually log out at the end of the session rather than just clicking the X at the top of the screen. Otherwise, the session will remain active and eventually Windows will report that you have exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections.

If this happens, you'll have to log into a Console Session and log out the active one.

Oops! This post was near the top of page 1 in my view of General Software Chat, and I just assumed it was new. That will teach me to pay closer attention next time.

No problem, just had a few spammers recently who have a habbit of digging up old stuff so had to check.

Carry on.
