Hi all

Is it just me.... more often than not, when I am about to scroll my page, in anything, hotmail, Word whatever, I am just pointing the mouse arrow on the side bar, about to click, when this strange rectangular bar pops up on top of the arrow pointer, grabs the side bar and scrolls it at amazing speeds up and down at will.

This is just the most annoying frustrating thing in the world, you're reading something and want to just shift down a line or two and suddenly its back at the top or down two pages!

I've looked on 'help' thinking it is a windows helpful (but unbelieveably UNhelpful) tool that I can disable, nothing at all on scrolling. Have tried right clicking it, again no disable or delete choice.

Can anyone help before I got totally mental??? I have HP laptop with XP software - don't be too technical as I'm not up to more than basic stuff. Had a job registering as didn't understand the last two things to click on the form - nvtivia or something - just clicked anything in the end!! Also don't understand the columns below this message submission - parsing???? WOT? So you'll guess the standard of my IT knowledge.

Cheers
Greko

Does your track pad have a thing on the side of it (most likely the right side) that is like a thick line?

Most have this, and its the scroll area, and it sucks, it could be this.

Also go to mouse settings (in control panel) and click the "wheel" tab. See if it has lines or screens selected.

Are you sure you haven't "clicked' your scroll wheel? That will make an icon appear and the scroll action to work at light speed as well.

Thanks very much for the replies, I have no idea what a scroll wheel is so I doubt I do have one.
I do have a separate line though, alongside my touchpad, never noticed it before! So I'll certainly watch out I don't touch it by mistake.

Also I have taken off the 'wheel' detection on mouse settings so maybe between you you have solved my problem and saved my sanity - thanks VERY much all of you.
