Default Windows XP Service pack 2

Hi!

HP Pavilion zt 3000
Windows XP
768 MB RAM

I have been having troubl einstalling the servive pack 2 for a while now...I hv tried atleast a dozen times and it hangs where it says it is checking my product key. My OS is genuine (acknowledged by Microsoft website when I was updating the Direct X9.0) so I dont see what the problem is. I tried to get it off the internet (posts on google) and when I run set up, it tried to install the whole windows package...

If I hv to run the whole set up, does it mean that my data will be erased?

Is it possible to get only a XP Service pack 2 update somewhere?

Please help...am a little desperate since I have been getting innumerable erros using windows and when I report it, it always asks me to download Service pack 2...

Many thanks!
Tina

SP3 has not been released to the public except in beta form. Not suggested downloading it yet.
