It's obviously Norton or anything related to Norton. :P But most anti virus/spyware tend to slow down the computer but Norton does so at an unbelievable rate.

Windows update. Each update makes your PC run slower.

AAAAAAAARRRRRCCCHHHHHH.......!!!!!! Why is everyone always knocking Norton...??? Yes it makes your computer run dog slow and yes it is far worse than other Anti-Virus programs but thats because Norton does a proper job compared to most of the other sh... erm, crap.

Everyone I know seems to fall in love with AVG because It's cheap and doesn't make your computer run as slow as Norton does... Well you get what you pay for. We got AVG at work and even though the virus defenition files on our PC's are getting updated on an almost weekly basis, I had 3 viruses in less than 6 months. And I'm not the only one at work... In the mean time, I have been using Norton at home. The last virus that slipped on my home system was about 2 years ago and that was because I didn't bother updating the virus defenition files in time...

Besides, I get people all around me complaining about a slow system and could I please come around in order to have a look and when I do, I find that their anti virus programs are running ALL THE TIME... That's just plain stupid. If you're not on the internet, shut your anti virus/spyware/malware software down and your system will run a lot faster... Maybe it's a stupid analogy but it's like opening your car's sunroof when it's raining and then complain that your seats are getting wet...!!!

Cheers:
Chris.

Maybe you are visiting sites at work that you wouldn't dare visit at home?

As for running Anti Virus all the time I personally would recommend that aswell.
Who knows what infected files people will run or put on their computer when they are not connected to the internet.

I dont think your analogy is stupid I just think it would better describe people turning off their AV software.lol

Norton doesn't do a terrible job at detection, but it certainly is not amongst the best. Bit Defender, Kapersky and NOD32 have much better detection rates and also have a much smaller footprint, when it comes to System Resources.

The main complaints with Norton are .... it is bloatware and it hogs resorces, slowing some machines to a crawl .... just check out the number of processes Norton has running. Couple this with it's incompatibility issues and the level of control it exercises over your system the and you have a program that's a real slug, causes many issues and is far too restrictive.
Also if a user is not running a high spec machine, these problems are intolerable.

I've heard it all now, next people will be saying Alienware PC's are excellent value for money because they have a nice case that you can't get elsewhere, there's an analogy for you.

Alienware might do such cases but you can get clones that are nigh on the same, they might not be exact but they do a perfectly good job, not unlike Norton vs Free AV.

Norton may be more vigilant but unless you are MI5 or CIA working from home you just don't need it, it's pure overkill and you are paying for that wasted vigilance.

Norton 360 is like £50, even if it was better than the free AV's, which it isn't, it isn't worth the extra money and trade off for system performance.

Norton 360 is shite. I was running my PC with 12+ viruses on it, banking and what not. Installed AVG version 7, Spybot S&D and picked up everything that Norton 360 DIDN'T. Plus, as everyone has said, it slowed down my PC terribly.

Someone also said that windows updates slow down your PC... that true? O.o
