There are a lot of ways, but my favorite is, in firefox, putting the following in the Location box when you make a new bookmark:
javascript:if(document.location.href.match(/http:\/\/[a-zA-Z\.]*youtube\.com\/watch/)){document.location.href='http://www.youtube.com/get_video?fmt='+(isHDAvailable?'22':'18')+'&video_ id='+swfArgs['video_id']+'&t='+swfArgs['t']} That way, just go to a YouTube page and click the bookmark and it will start the file's download. http://vixy.net/ is also good.

If you get 'Any Video Convertor' (also known as AVC, google it), you can simply copy n paste in a the URL from youtube, hit go, and it will go, and it will download and convert to the format you specify.
Other than that, if you do download using a different means, get VLC media player, as you will need to be able to play .flv files... |

MPC-HC also plays flv.
