Default Hallo all...

Hi,
I, like I suspect most of you, came here because I have a problem, but I will post that elsewhere...

I am a computer novice having only been using them for twenty years and building them for about three. Novice? well I think I am. You see the problem is that I only got seriously involved with computers when the whole world went digital. Not having any kids around means I have no 'experts' to ask for help...

I make a living from writing, illustration and photography - all of which is now digital. Although that has many benefits, it still means I have been dragged - screaming and shouting - into the world of computers.

Building them has been from necessity for me as I just could not get what I wanted. Besides this way I cut out all those so called experts telling me what I do and do not need...

Yeah I now, at fifty+ I have turned into a grumpy 'ol man...

So far I have mastered most things either by trial and error or by turning the air blue and then thinking about it over a pint or two. I haven't got to the - smash it up and take up something else instead - stage ...yet!

See you on the board, I'll try and give something as well as take, if I can...

Suds.

Default Hallo all...

That's got to be the best introduction I've ever read.

And a fellow photographer to boot.

I too was dragged kicking and screaming into digital photography Suds. Still haven't been able to bear selling my 35mm Nikon.

Default Hallo all...

Thanks for the warm welcome folks...

Alex, Hi...

It took me a while, I had a couple of Nikon F2's photomics that I had been using for over twenty years and a Hasselblad of only slightly younger vintage. The trouble was the publishers were getting more and more reluctant to take film, even for cover shots, so eventually the Nikons went to ebay and Hasselblad got part ex'ed for a professional digital body...

It hurt at first but then I felt the benefits. American publishers could have pictures in hours not days and my processing and courier bills disappeared - as well as getting the fridge back!

We now have all digital cameras and I would not go back to film (yes that is me saying that) now. Even though we have spent thousands of pounds on cameras and software we are still quids-in on the materials saving and the fact that we get work we could not do before due to the time it took to have film processed (usually only an hour or so) and getting the photographs to the publishers.

I still have a soft spot for film but it is just not practical to use in my line of work any more

Ralph (AKA Suds)
