when it comes to servers and such most people run them on linux because its free and does the job good enough. who uses a server as a home computer? many people use linux, just not on a computer they physically use to do stuff on. you wont play a game on a server computer, you'll play a game on a gaming computer. Although many computer use linux, they use it in a very different way. thats why they are use for websites and such because the OS is free.

edit- oh Unix, though you said Linux...then again im not sure what Unix really is...sound like something related to Linux (hence the suffix)

Everything, EVERYTHING, that you take for granted in Windoze, it was all created way back for Unix! The Web, TCP/IP, FTP, remote access, (X) Windows, a shell (dumb Windoze calls their shabby imitation MSDOS), 64bit, virtual memory, multiple users, big monitors, security, web servers, C, I could go on but I have made my point! Vista is still playing catch up!

Even this site runs Apache web server on Linux, Apache 2.2.3 on CentOS
