So I was looking at http://www.projecthoneypot.org/home.php.

They do or did offer a service where an IP that visits is checked against their database and allowed or blocked accordingly.

It seems a bit dead, or the implementation into your own site bit is.

Anyone know any alternatives? Blocking all the IPs on my sites is becoming a PITA.

Hmm I'm not particularly up to date with it but the way I do it here is to have the firewall deny requests from a list of nasty IPs it downloads every night. I will have a look and see what I can find.

Currently I block via htaccess, get the IPs from the traps I set or if I see excessive activity.

But it's getting to the point where I need to add a lot a day so some sort of automated system is needed.

Let me know mate.

You should like this one Dave. http://www.stopforumspam.com/

I don't know anything about installing it but know two other admins, one using VBulliten and one using Simple Machines (SMF) who have both had high praises for it.

This is an extension of StopForumSpam. Spambot Search Tool

This is also cool. http://botscout.com/

Haha, I've got so many bookmarks that I think I will never need. Something for nearly everything

I noticed you had been messing with the spam filter. Should have thought to tell you about them by now...

Main issue right now is things like bots cloning the site and stealing all the content. It's getting quite bad.

Well project honey pot has a massive database, and the site incorporates that and many others so looks good feature wise. Install guide is pretty vague though.

I suggested Honey Pot to the other guys and they didn't seem to like it much. If I'm not mistaken Project Honey Pot and Stop Forum Spam share information along with a few others. Combined resources...

Check out this page: Spambot Search Tool. It shows all of the sites included in the tool.
