I want to commercialize one of my blogs, which means I need to develop traffic. Is it more lucrative to talk about name brand products or are social issues better click fodder?

The blog that you want to commercialize, what topic is that ? and it does not matter whether you write about Brand or social issues, but what you write does matter.
content is the king in any blog... so just keep writing good content

The blog I am thinking about right now is cosmetics and skin care. I thought it might be interesting to choose a product and talk about its ingredients.

I would have to agree with the writing. One thing I can think of that might draw people would be testing on animals.

I think that their names would trigger interesting ads if you're using Adsense or programs like that.

Sorry, I'm not following this well either, but I do know that you can have Adsense ads and buttons on blogs that are hosted on blogspot.com.

I also have those things on a blog page at freewebs, too.
