Careful -- copyright.ORG is a website that redirects to the MPA's south american affiliate. You'd want to use "www.copyright.gov" for US Copyright registrations. Remember, though it would NOT protect you in your home country.

You can, although copyright law gives you copyright as the originator of the script anyway. Registering can help in resolving disputes, but it isn't necessary to establish your ownership.A simple way to protect yourself is to mail a copy of the script to yourself, and then leave it in the envelope, unopened. The cancelled stamp on the envelope acts as a way to prove when it was mailed, so you can establish you had a prior claim if a lawsuit arises.
