CCTLDs are country based third level domain names. If you note CCTLDs are significantly more expensive than the normal third level domain (TLD) name rate. Why is this so? Is there something to do with law of supply and demand?

You have your normal domain name like this www.yourdomain.com , which is a third level domain name type. For a country based domain name, there is another extention like this www.yourdomain.com.au . The extension au is the country based extension for Australia. Now www.yourdomain.com is a lot cheaper than www.yourdomain.com.au . The latter type of domain name seems to be the most expensive among commercial domain names. I just wondfer why

.com was introduced first way before any other domain endings became available.
Therefor there is less choice hence why they are giving them away. |

I think the price factor could be one way to regular indiscriminate purchase of CCTLDs. Cybersquatters are all over the internet waiting to strike if there are good domain names to be acquired which will be sold later for a good profit.
